Backlinks? What’s a Backlink?

This "quickie" page is a bit about semantics. Or search engine lingo.

You may call them plain ole links.

Others may use the term backlinks.

Others still inbound links.
Don’t be confused. It all pretty much means the same thing.

All with the same results. Higher rankings.

Thats right. Backlinks are vital if you want to rank well in search engines.

Especially so with Google.

And more and more with other search engines too.

Know the best kind of back links? Answer: Those that have your focus keywords in the link text naturally. (But then you might know that by now.)

That means each link you get to your page enhances its link reputation. Making it easier and easier for it to rank higher for that focus keyword.
By the way, don’t worry if you don’t see any change in PR right away. I suspect Google gives you extra credit as soon as it finds the backlink. But that extra credit may not be reflected in the toolbar and such until it updates the PR which happens every 4-6 weeks or so.
So no matter what you call them, Google calls ‘em good. As in good for your rankings, good for more traffic and good for more money in the bank. That’s the end of the backlinks story.
