Snatch Better Google Ranking Using These Proven Google Tips

It’s pretty much common knowledge that to land a top Google ranking you need loads of inbound links and fresh unique content.

Okay so much for the big picture. But what about some of the fine points? How about some lesser Google ranking tips?

Question: How long should a title be for GOOGLE?
Google Tips: Glad you asked. But before I answer that let me remind you the keyword phrase(s) you are targeting must be in your title. That said I tend to max out titles at 65 characters for Google and I don't repeat a keyword more than twice.

If it helps, a good rule of thumb is to put the targeted keyword once towards the front of a 5 to 8 word page title. Still less is more - as too many words tend to dilute
the ranking potency of your keyword phrase.

Also remember any keyword phrase in your title must show up in your content to do you any good.
  • Google Ranking Strategy: Unhappy with your site rank? Try tweaking your title first. That’s the first strategy of choice for 44% of webmasters wishing to boost their Google listing.
Question: Is it better to focus on titles that rank well or titles that compel a click through?
Google Tips: Good question. Don’t lose sight of this point…
  • Rank comes before clicks. Without rank you can just about bet you won’t get the click. So no matter how compelling the title, if it doesn’t help you get good rank, what good is it?
Question: What’s wrong with using the same title tag on every page?
Google Tips: Lots. Call it Opportunity Lost.
  • Keep in mind the title tag is prime keyword real estate. It is one of the most important weapons in your seo arsenal. Exploit that fact. Focus each page on one keyword phrase and make sure to get that focus keyword phrase in a unique title tag for each page.
Question: How can I maximize the impact of my meta keyword tag for Google?
Google Tips: You can’t. Google doesn’t index or use that tag for ranking purposes.

Question: How often should I submit my pages to Google?
Google Tips: Once. All I did was submit at least one page from every directory found on my site (One does it. I found no need to submit them all.) and I was in. End of story.

Question: What about keyword(s) in my domain name - good? bad? or neutral? What about hyphenation?
Google Tips: That matters more for directories than search engines. Plus the idea that a hyphenated domain in and of itself has any significant impact on rankings is at best a stretch. Any domain name by itself confers very little ranking impact.

Question: How about the all important DMOZ link?
Google Tips: Obviously, since Google uses their description, you KNOW Google tends to favor sites in DMOZ.

That said, some feel the value of a DMOZ listing is diminishing. Besides depending on the category, it’s can take forever to get in.

Another consideration is what I call the trickle down theory. You’ll notice when you start to seek out directory listings that there are many directories using DMOZ listings. Presto - one listing propagates into many almost by magic. Something to think about as both the links and traffic can add up over time.

So there you go. Unless you want some bonus Google ranking tips you're good.
