Keyword Analysis: The Formula For Failure That’s Bound To Succeed

Success with search engines all begins with keyword analysis. It also holds the seeds of failure. That’s right, your success with the likes of Google, and now Yahoo and soon MSN is determined by the keyword analysis you do BEFORE you create page one.

Yet in this age of 30 second meals, instant messaging, and 10 minute oil changes some get dazzled by a ill advised shortcut. Detoured from the path to success because they’re in a hurry.

You see online marketing is based on keywords. You blanket the market by putting up the number of pages necessary to cover any and all keywords your prospects may use to find info on what you have to sell. Shooting to rank well for each.

Much like a spider spins a web where the flies fly, you want to have pages where the searchers search.

But the mistake many make is to focus on a handful of generic search terms. Blinded by the number of searches each attracts. While ignoring the generally more profitable muli word keyword phrases. Some would call them the money phrases. Because only the truly serious use them to find what they’re looking for.

Yet here’s how to turn that formula for failure into one that’s bound to succeed.

Keyword Analysis: Unleash Keyword Power of Phrases

Want proof? The website One Stat, which is known for web analytics, has published studies the past two years that reflect the number of terms searchers are using. Here’s the results.

    Feb 2004 Apr 2003
1 2 word phrase 32.6% 29.2%
2 3 word phrase 25.6% 24.3%
3 1 word 19.0% 24.8%
4 4 word phrase 12.8% 12.3%
5 5 word phrase 5.6% 5.4%
6 6 word phrase 2.3% 2.2%

As you can see, both 2 word and 3 word phrases gained ground since April 2003. Mostly at the expense of one word wonders.

To me this says searchers are getting it. They’re discovering that to find what they want one word searches aren’t going to get it. That the more specific the search phrase they use the closer the results returned should be.

‘Bout time. And certainly worth keeping in mind when doing any pre site keyword analysis.
