Want to know the secret to keyword rankings success?

It’s simple. It all comes down to how well you rank for the keywords likely customers are using to find your product or service. And that starts with keyword research.

Notice I didn’t say how well you rank for the most popular generic keyword phrase.

That’s because the generic wonder that gets all the attention is unlikely to be the most profitable.

But it IS likely to be the most competitive in the keyword rankings. Consuming hours of time and effort as you strive to outrank your equally in the dark competition.
I say it's not likely to be the most profitable for good reason. Because if someone searches for "tropical fish" what do you REALLY know about what they’re looking for?

Now if they enter "external filter" in Google you know a bit more.

While if they search for "whisper filter" you can bet a large percentage of those trolling the keyword rankings do so with credit card in hand. Since this is a brand of external filter favored by many hobbyists.
This is why you want to carefully brainstorm and research your target keyword. To identify the ones destined to result in sales not just visitors. Since there’s a world of difference between buyers and visitors.

Besides when you blanket your market with many such search terms you’re multiplying your chance of being at the right place at the right time. Which is why I call this keyword rankings tactic a keyword multiplier.

But say you can’t easily come up with specific product names. Now what?

Well you can still take a generic term and narrow it down quite nicely. While multiplying your keyword opportunities at the same time.

Here’s three ways to do so
• Localize it
• Associate it
• Commercialize it
Let’s take a peek at what I mean by using the generic term "drywall".

First when you do a Google search for the term "drywall" you get this:

   Results 1 - 10 of about 952,000 for "drywall"

Sure 952,000 is not an insurmountable number of keyword rankings to come out in the top 10 for. Especially when you eliminate those that aren’t optimized or specifically seeking drywall customers.

But it would be nice to thin the herd of potential competitors don’t you think?
