Marketing Linking Strategy aka Links Acquisition
Implementing an ongoing link building or linking strategy is more important than ever. Especially given Google is watching on-page elements more closely than before. You really want to have as many in bound links as you can possibly get your hands on.
The ultimate aim of any linking strategy you engage in should be high quality links. Links from high PR sites are an obvious no brainer since Google uses PR as an indicator of page quality.
Besides, google treats inbound links as a kind of peer review of sorts. (some put it as votes) Letting other webmasters weigh your site in the balance and decide if it’s link worthy. The more link worthy it's found to be the higher quality Google takes it to be.
Don't forget two important things.
Internal links count in any marketing linking strategy. (Did I just see the light bulb blink on over your head?) That says link text from internal links also plays a role in how well you rank then too. Carefully consider what link text you use since that comes into play as part of your overall linking strategy.
Also while there's a limit to how many times your focus keyword can appear on a page before it starts to look rediculous, there's no limit to the number of links you can get with your hot link text showing. Think about that. That alone should be all the incentive you need to aggressively pursue a linking strategy.
When embarking on any linking strategy it's better to set reasonable goals. Because are you more likely to spend 30 minutes or two hours a day on an ongoing regular basis. Yeah even 15 minutes might be pushing it some days.
Then too, it's kinda a numbers game. So the point I want to drive home is sending out one or two link requests a month isn't going to feed the bulldog. Instead you want to play the numbers game to the hilt. Consistently seek out links daily and in no time you'll have a nice collection of powerful in bound links to ride to top search engine rankings.
For me I like to get out 5 links requests a day four days a week. That's the goal. Which comes down to like 15 minutes of effort daily after three hours of prep work. I'll do the prep work over the weekend, get the potential link partner’s link up and then spread out the contacting over the course of the week. You can do something like that can't you?
While we're talking about link request, it's a good idea to keep your prospecting emails short and sweet. While answering these questions for your potential link partner.
» Where's my link? (Probably the most important one.)
» What's your site about?
» What do I use for your link?
» Why I should link to you?
What else? Oh yeah, use something in the subject line that lets the recipient know you're seeking a link. Sounds obvious I know. But I get all sorts of subject lines. May even delete some that I shouldn't.
But I can tell you in my case anything that mentions a link gets opened. Not all are accepted mind you. But at least seeing anything "link" in the subject line causes me to open the email.
Given the increasing important of links, don't wait until the time is right to start acting on your linking strategy. Because I can assure you your competitors aren't. At least not the ones looking to rank high.
