Meta Description Tag…You’re It!

Rookies just starting to optimize their sites often make the same mistakes.
They create some title tag.

Stuff the heck of the keyword meta tag.

Write a meta description. Then stand back and wait for the traffic to pour in. Believing their work is done.
WRONG! This ain’t like a game of tag where you all you have to do is tag someone and you’re done.

Besides, title tag aside, they’ve focused most of their efforts on tags all but ignored by Google.

Still I’m not going to sit here and tell you a well worded meta description tag won’t help. Somewhere on the net maybe. But it ain’t going to make or break you with Google. That’s for sure.

Simple fact is most search engines don’t even index META tags anymore.

Meaning they pack the wallop of a squirt gun instead of a water cannon.

In a nutshell, the meta description should consist of a brief general overview of your page. That’s it.

One strategy is to make the title tag, meta description tag and heading tag all the same.

Whatever strategy you choose, do NOT obsess about the meta description tag!

Instead pay attention to creating good page content. Optimized for a keyword phrase you want to rank well for. And go from there.
