search engine ranking seo strategy website marketing The Power of PagerankEver since Google unleashed it, pagerank has in some ways taken on a life of it’s own. And perhaps gotten a somewhat bigger than life reputation.Reality is however there are 3 basic parts to Google's algorithm 1.) "On Page" ranking criteriaNow just because it’s last doesn’t mean it’s least. Because pagerank means power. For instance, serious pageranking can help you entice Google by more often. Which will get new pages or changes to pages indexed faster. Helping you to cast a broader net covering more keywords just that much quicker. That cut off for serious? Seems it begins at PR 4. Serious pagerank will help you rank higher. Which will produce more traffic and sales. Much like debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, we could debate how much benefit higher PR confers until the cows come home.Suffice it to say it helps. And remember - you don’t need a lot of help to outrank some other site. Finally serious pagerank will be more attractive to some potential linking partners. Truth. There are many sites out there, mine included, that require at least PR 4 on the links page where their link will show up to even consider you for an exchange. Those are just three examples of the power of pagerank. They are also why I seek out high PR links. Within reason. Yeah no sense in going crazy over pagerank. And MINDLESSLY going with the higher PR links page for no good reason. Because sometimes it makes perfect sense to take a link from a page with a lower PR than a higher one. For instance Say you had a choice between having your link on a PR 3 page with one other link.Which would you choose? If you were blinded by the PR you’d go with the PR 7 and call it a day. But you know what? That link on that PR 3 links page would actually do you more good. That’s because, to oversimplify it a tad, you measure the PR value a link can acquire by taking the PR of the page and dividing it by the number of links. So the PR3 page with 2 links would pass each about 1.5 PR units. While the PR 7 page with 100 links would pass on about .07 PR units. Making the PR 3 page a winner by a country mile. SEO TIP: This is why you can’t blindly pursue High PR Links without first looking at how many links are already on the links page. But that said, all things being equal, I’d take the link from the page with higher PR any day. Couple that with link reputation (CRITICAL POINT ALERT) and you’ve got the makings for a hot example of the power of pagerank.
