Events like that send Tsunami-like shock waves washing over the webmaster community. Literally.

The famed Florida update hit right in time for many to miss the long anticipated Christmas rush.

It left those dependent on free search engine traffic looking for a window to jump out of.

Myself, I look at all that as a wake up call. Thank you very much Google!
