Let me try to ease those anxieties. As the road to a top google ranking follows a more or less consistent path.

First Month of Striving for Top Google Ranking

Your site is ready at last. While working on that elusive but vital DMOZ,org listing, get a listing in some other directory. For this I like to use either GoGuides.org or JoeAnt.com.

Reason being both are regularly crawled by Google. So either can give you the requisite link that Google needs to find and list you.

Obviously you can't snag a top Google ranking if Google can't find you.

Get your directory listing as soon as possible. That way with the rolling update, your site will get into Google's index ASAP.

WARNING: New listings will often show up briefly. Typically for a day or two. Then disappear.

But congrats are in order. You’ve overcome the first hurdle to landing a top Google ranking. That is you’re in the index.

You can found this out by entering the following into Google’s search box…

site:www.YourNewDomain.com

Any pages indexed will be returned for that query.

Oh and relax. That disappearing act is perfectly normal.

Now depending on when you get your first link it can take 30 days for that first fleeting appearance. Or 3 days.

But don’t break out the champaign just yet. There’s lots more work to do. Use the next 30 days to add more content. Content is a critical ingredient for those wanting a top google ranking. So add as much as you can stand to create.
